Solar Radio Astronomy

Solar Radio Astronomy by Alex Labunskij in Greystones Library. Phone: 01 287 3548. https://www.skyandsolar.com/plotter

Description of the talk: It would be a short, around 45-60 min talk on just one of radio astronomy fields, which focuses on simple and accessible method of measuring the Earth’s ionosphere’s response to Solar radiation or other external factors. Typical applications would be to monitor and record Solar flares and measure sunrise/sunset times. In addition, strong Gamma Ray Burst from distant stars could be detected. Also, measuring of Northern Lights’ intensity is well possible.

I would imagine the target audience as experienced or novice astronomers with little or no experience in that field of radio astronomy, as well as students, who may take the idea and run their own similar project for a college. Parents with kids, who may just start their interest in science can find the talk useful too.
