For each session, we will have a team of experts to help you navigate the night sky using our telescopes (weather-dependent) along with a dome show in our digital theatre and an astronomer talk.

Along with our digital theatre, Data Visualisation Laboratory and telescope viewing, we have Paul Evans (President of the Irish Astronomical Association) joining us for an astronomy talk.

Title: “The Total Solar Eclipse – Nature’s Finest Spectacle”

Synopsis: By an amazing coincidence of nature The Moon and The Sun appear in the sky as approximately the same size. Sometimes it happens that The Moon passes in front of the Sun completely obscuring its disc, but only if you’re in the right place at the right time. Paul will talk about the science of how this happens, what happens when it doesn’t quite happen and will give a personal account of various eclipses of all sorts that he has seen.
