This is a Good News and Bad News story. The good news is that fantastic new techniques and telescopes, both on Earth and in Space, are providing incredible and spectacular views and information on the amazing universe in which we live. The bad news is that our own individual view of the beautiful night sky is being slowly destroyed by the continuing growth of artificial lighting, causing what is known as ‘light pollution’. This talk will look at what we are learning about our place in the universe, and what we can do to try to reduce the light pollution problem.
