Ireland’s Ancient Space Connection

For Irish Astronomy Week and Seachtain na Gaeilge, MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory are celebrating Ireland’s deep connection to the stars. On Friday March 15th, all our regularly scheduled tours will include a special focus on two aspects of Ireland’s Astronomical Heritage that are particular favourites here at BCO – Newgrange and Leviathan. Come check out our scale models of these two impressive structures while learning about their fascinating history. As it’s Seachtain na Gaeilge, our regular star shows will introduce you to some Irish grammar relating to astronomy (Don’t worry if you don’t speak Irish, we’ll just be introducing some terminology while delivering the talk in English).
As a bonus, if weather permits, we will also engage in some daytime Moon observing with our telescopes in the castle courtyard.
The guided tour and astronomy show are included as part of a regular ticket price. Observing in the courtyard is free, but please note it may not proceed if weather conditions are not suitable.
Date: Friday March 15th
Time: 10am -4pm
Tickets: Tours are included as part of our regular admission but pre-booking your ticket online is essential. click on https://www.bco.ie/irish-astronomy-week/ to see availability for Friday the 15th.
