Dark Sky Tourism is emerging as a new travel trend for 2024, and County Mayo is positioned as one of the best places to experience the increasingly rare beauty of a naturally dark sky. Georgia MacMillan is passionate about Dark Skies, light pollution and Astronomy. Her research into light pollution and dark sky development in the West of Ireland, led her to establish Mayo Dark Skies community group and prepare the application for International Dark Sky recognition of Mayo Dark Sky Park which the team successfully achieved with a Gold Tier Award in May 2016. She currently holds the position of Mayo Dark Sky Park development officer with a role as public and policy engagement on Dark Skies, Dark Sky Tourism Development, Dark Sky Education & Community Training Programmes and Dark Sky Compliance.
