Astronomy from Raheny by Dave Grennan in Raheny Library. Phone: (01) 222 83227

Dave Grennan has been an amateur astronomer for over 40 years. Back in 2006, Dave built his own private observatory in his backyard in Raheny, North Dublin, for the purpose of conducting astronomical science. In 2010 Dave became the first person in Ireland to discover a supernova (2010 IK) these exploding stars, are the biggest explosion in the universe after the Big Bang.

After his discovery, Dave built his own large telescope with a 14-inch mirror that Dave ground and polished himself. In recent years Dave’s research has resulted in several new discoveries including two main belt asteroids and two more supernovae and will form part of his talk while also taking in an overview of his current research and future research plans. http://rahenyobservatory.ie/
